Mid-Century Modern @ Margaret Drive

A woman with long dark hair, wearing white pants and a white sleeveless top, stands in a living room facing a large wooden shelving unit, reaching for a book. The room has decorative items on the shelves, a television, a table with a floral tablecloth, a laptop, a framed picture, a lamp, and a door on the left side. There are flowers in a tall glass vase and curtains on the right side of the image.

This mid-century modern home blends clean lines, earthy tones, and personalized touches to create a warm, character-filled sanctuary for a young family.

Tucked away in a vivacious neighborhood, this mid-century modern residence houses a young family in a space that is hearty and full of character. Design is ever cyclical, styles that have had their heyday are resurrected in new ways, and while mid-century modern is by no means the only aesthetic to have had a resurgence, it has certainly done so with indelible residing influence. Defined by its clean lines, organic forms, a less-is-more approach, and emphasis on functionality.

As with traditional 1960s mid-century modern designs, the house follows an earthy palette with modest yet practical carpentry using only a single reddish-brown wood injecting tinge of warmth throughout the abode, along with the chosen tiles being in creamy beige hue, creating a stylish and timeless base along with a tasteful selection of textures building visual impact.

While on the other hand, typical mid-century modern design minimizes the level of décor and ornaments, we opted for the alternative, with soft textiles and personalized accessories to create a warm space filled with personal touch. A curated built environment was constructed in the living space to allow the couple’s treasure trove of growing ceramics and mementos to stand proud while blending seamlessly with each pieces telling their own stories and becoming the showpiece of the home.

Interior of a modern apartment kitchen with a dining area. Features include a wooden dining table with four chairs, a vase with dried flowers, and a small decorative bowl. The kitchen has dark wooden cabinets, a stainless steel refrigerator, and minimalist lighting on the ceiling.

Earthy washes of green subway tiles were introduced as an accent color in the dining area with the same hues used that accented the main door, giving a contrasting visual transition with semblance of uniformity to the otherwise wood grain-based setting.

The kitchen wall was demolished midway to open-up the space, creating an illusion of openness, allowing more visual connectivity through the entire hosting space whilst borrowing natural light to bounce off each area through the home. A double gallery cabinetry was introduced with subtle design elements that complements the core of clean lines and functionality in order to utilize the tight square footage of a kitchen with enough storage opportunities to grow alongside the family. Ridded glass doors and panels were also selected to efficiently allow light to bounce through and acts as a barrier of opacity to conceal the laundry area while cooking and/or hosting.

The continuity use of materials and guiding principle in the bathrooms harmonizes with the rest of the place by adding warmth to an otherwise simple space. Incorporating unsuspecting tactile touches like the indentation on the mirror vanity, it performs beyond just a visual interest, its created to generate airflow fluidity whilst concealing the given windows, minimizing clutter and uninterrupted consistency.
