What happens when a home is designed around the things you love to collect?

There is something quite satisfying about a home that makes room for the things its owners genuinely love. For this young couple, their 4-room home takes on a relaxed Japandi sensibility, creating an easy backdrop for everyday life. But look a little closer, and the home reveals something more personal: spaces designed around their collections, hobbies and the rituals they enjoy at home.

In the living room, one long stretch of cabinetry does more than provide storage. Built into it is a dedicated beverage station, with a niche for their compact wine chiller, shelves for their alcohol collection and a stemware rack for their glasses. Even the lighting was considered. Integrated LEDs let you browse the collection without reaching for the main light. Above, cove lighting keeps the ceiling softly illuminated.

Beyond the glass partition lies the couple’s workroom, designed as a dedicated space for work and hobbies. The wife is an avid keyboard collector, and we were impressed by the variety of keyboards she had amassed, each with its own design and details. It was only when the couple began setting up the room that they realised just how extensive the collection had become. To give the collection its own dedicated space, we designed a custom-built display case behind the study table, complete with a pull-out drawer mechanism that makes it easy for her to view the collection at a glance and take out the keyboards whenever she wants to use them.
