Eclectic @ Lorong Liew Lian

Living room with beige sofa, musical TV screen, wooden shelves with plants and books, and person hanging plants on the right side.

This eclectic 3-room flat blends wood, microcement floors and terracotta accents to create a functional and character-filled home.

A cozy living room filled with numerous green plants on shelves and the floor, with a large television displaying a group of people outside. The room has a reddish-orange accent wall, wooden furniture, and blankets on a white sofa. There is a ceiling fan, wall-mounted lights, and an air conditioning unit.

Eclectic - deriving ideas, style, or taste from a broad and diverse range of sources. This is the theme that we went ahead with. We took into consideration homeowners’ avid interest in pottery when designing their home. We incorporated plants with a tinge of terracotta to further enhance the home. Our homeowner wanted to incorporate raw wood instead of using laminates for the cabinets. We used birchwood to enhance the raw side profile of the wood which shows the layered profile.

Eclectic kitchen with light wood cabinets, red tile backsplash, built-in oven, microwave on counter, gas stove, open shelves with jars, plants, and kitchen utensils, dining area with a table, chairs, and a large window with a city view.

The choice of microcement for the floors gave the home a seamless look and texture. Keeping the existing old door that was in the home, we touched it up with paint to bring out the traditional vibe which was kept consistent in the kitchen backsplash which are usually seen in older buildings.

Two adjacent walk-in bathrooms with white tile walls and floors, each with a small window and white fixtures, separated by a white wall.

Due to the constraints of a 3 room flat, the toilet is extremely small and we constructed a manmade concret sink to fit nicely into the tight space. The decision to do this further exude the raw vibes. In order to hide the toilet pipes, we created a shampoo niche for our homeowners to use - beautifying the toilet but yet keeping it functional for our homeowners.
