What happens when an interior designer gets to renovate her very own home?

What happens when one of our very own designers gets a new home? Our interior designer did not have a specific theme in mind, but she knew she wanted to incorporate the little details she had grown to love and picked up on while designing her clients’ homes, this time with her own twist. She wanted her home to feel cosy and inviting for gatherings, while also providing a comfortable space to work from home.

The first thing you see when you walk in is a built-in settee finished in a beautiful light wood grain laminate, adding a natural touch to the space. What’s even better is the hidden storage beneath the lift-up seat! She also had power sockets installed nearby, allowing her to use the settee as a workspace on work-from-home days. As someone who loves hosting friends, she wanted a cosy corner where everyone could relax after a meal. To make this happen, she transformed the space beside the dining area into a comfortable gathering spot, complete with warm red walls that create an inviting ambience, especially in the evening.

Opposite the dining area sits a console displaying her favourite pieces and knick-knacks, including a vinyl player. Beside it is what appears to be a bookshelf, but there is more than meets the eye. Slide the bookshelf door open and you will find the space she spent the most time designing: the kitchen. Keeping things simple, she opted for light wood laminate, blue upper cabinetry and distinctive red square cut-outs for a pop of colour. Open shelves provide space to display her favourite kitchenware.

The home’s warm colour palette takes a turn in the TV area, which is subtly separated by a half-height glass block wall. Her orange sofa stands out against the laminated walls, which resemble stainless steel for a similar look at a more cost-friendly price. Beyond this are two concealed doors, one leading to the bomb shelter and the other to the bedrooms.

The master bedroom takes on a mid-century direction, with a darker colour palette and a mosaic feature wall behind the bed that adds texture to the space. The same laminate carries through to the wardrobe, creating a sense of balance before leading into the cool blue bathroom, complete with a membrane light, blue shower frame and checkered tiles.
